When Hadi left the band, Waffath stopped their helltivities for a short moment! Naz then decided to move on with the band without Hadi, as he took over Hadi's and Najeebz position in screams and guitars! Naz was also thinking of changing the band's moniker because there were also another band from west malaysia using a very similar name, Waffat! So to avoid any unpleasant situation Naz decided it is best to change to a new band name. Several weeks without a band name, a great friend and partner in crime, Awang! Came up with a good name for this band, Mantak! Naz personally think Mantak is a suitable moniker and guaranteed that no other bands are using it that time, be it local or overseas!
Over the years, many maniacs have asked the meaning of the name Mantak. Well, Mantak is a word taken from Bruneian / Kedayan race, meaning "evil black magic without boundaries"!
Naz met neo (an alkoholik bastard living the same area with Naz and azarul) and offered him to fill in the bass guitar position in Mantak! At first, they thought of keeping Waffath's songs, to be used in Mantak but after several discussions they decided not to use them because Mantak wants something real from themselves, which means something that can afflict their soul while desecrating the instruments! So all of Waffath's songs are buried as Mantak starts to work on new songs!
Many people (who had followed Mantak's progress since the early stages) did not know that Hanip Grind of Kota Kinabalu death metal band Morbituary, gave us the name of his old band Thy Only Knights, with their completed logos, etc! But Mantak refused to used his moniker as they really do not want to change names again! As Mantak knows that the band Thy Only Knights still exists and very actively playing shows in Kota Kinabalu, it is definitely foolish to take that name!
In the same year, Mantak also recorded a rehearsal tape, which has a very bad sound. After considering advices from Hanip Grind (Morbituary), Mantak decided not to release the tape to the underground legions!
